"The Last Glory"

The Last Glory
12 x 12"
Oil on stretched canvas
 Sold
I painted this scene from our local beach after a long day playing on the beach, a piece of huge cloud over our head was shined by the sunset before the dark. It is so inspirational, I try to paint it as close as what I saw in the real time, but feel like a little kid using limited vocabularies to describe a big story. I think that is the motivation of all of us doing our paintings--to challenge ourselves in art field.
I am so grateful for this year that I have so much accomplishments in life & in painting! All I want to say is Thank You to all of you for The Supports and Loves!--my family, friends, friends within art. :-)  I want to share something with you:
TO LOVE IS NOTHING
TO BE LOVED IS SOMETHING
TO LOVE AND BE LOVED IS EVERYTHING!
P.S. I have to focus on preparing the things for a coming long road trip, maybe this will be my last post of the year, so I don't want to miss the chance to wish you all
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

"Courtyard Entrance"--View of Forbidden City

Courtyard Entrance
8 X 6"
Oil on gessoed MDF Board
Sold

The Forbidden City is located on city center in Beijing. It is the former Imperial Palace, from twenty-four emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties ruled China for almost 500 years. It served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Now the 'City' is no longer forbidding, but inviting. A visit to the Palace will enrich the visitors' knowledge of history, economy, politics, arts as well as architecture in ancient China.
Painting this scene from Forbidden City is very joyful practice to express the respect to the ancient creativity.
Please enjoy some of the photos of the Forbidden City from my trip:

"Smilely Mouflon"--The Emotion Challenge

Smilely Mouflon
5 x 7"
Oil on gessoed MDF board

This week's DPW challenge is to paint an emotion, so after went through all the photos I took from the zoo, here I found a smiling mouflon in front of the camera, I always believe that he's having a good time and is very satisfied with his life in the zoo, even he has to give up his wildness (sometimes I wish to have that kind of life--don't have to worry about the bills to pay, just enjoy the life). Thanks to the host Jo MacKenzie, you gave me a perfect chance to feel and paint the emotion of happiness around us.

"I Get Power!"--Beijing Cityscape Series

I Get Power!
8 x 6"
Oil on gessoed MDF board
Sold

One day, I decided to take my husband and daughter visiting the old neighbourhood where I grew up. I haven't been back since year 2000.
It is located in the 2nd. Ring Road of Beijing, right next to the famous Lama Temple-Yong'he Gong, because of the historical location, some of the streets--we call them 'Hutong' got well improvement, some of them are still not yet. I remembered the old Hutong were wider street than now, I was so amamzed by its crowded!  The power pole is hooked by bunches of wires and cables to ensure every residece within the area getting the power and phone lines, so when you look up the sky, it's been divided into many kinds of shapes.

"Fall's Messenger"--The Birch Tree Challenge

Fall's Messenger
8 x 10"
Oil on 1/8" gessobord
Sold

Hello Everyone, I am back from my long vacation in Beijing China!! We had a great time there! The most important thing is bringing my daughter to meet my parents the 1st. time. They spent lots of wonderful time together. I feel so accomplished to gave my daughter a Chinese adventure. She seems enjoyed the culture, the people and the food (of course!
). I will post more photos from the trip later on.

Birch trees are popular in North of China, we have few birch trees in the city of Beijing, but most of them I saw are in the parks. By the leaves turns into golden and orange colors, we are notified the fall is here. I love the colors of the leaves in this scene that I chose to paint, a bit of remain green leaves mixed with the orange's, just like a little message from fall to tell us that the golden season is coming soon.

Thank you to the 'Birch Tree Challenge' of DPW, after finished this painting, I feel back home completely!!

"Little B.F.F."

Little B.F.F.
6 x 12"
oil on 1/4" thick gessoed hardboard
Sold
I enjoyed painting these two lovely girls on the beach--the natural pose, the ripples movement, the reflections, the light... It includes everything I need to practice in my painting.
Kids always can find their simple pleasures in the nature, I wish to stay that simple forever!
Every kid has only one childhood, give them the opportunity to discover the potential in the colourful world. All we can do is to protect them, to keep a healthy peaceful environment for them to grow.

This painting will be my only one for July, because I'll have a very important long journey coming  and maybe won't be able to paint for awhile. I will try to keep posting during the journey as much as I can!
Please stay tuned! Happy 4th. of July!

"Grasshopper On The Yellow Pole"

Grasshopper On The Yellow Pole
5 x 7"
Oil on 1/4" thick gessoed hardboard
Sold

I originally took these grasshopper pictures for my father, he is a big fan of this kind of insect. He grew up in the village, grasshopper was his favourite "pet" once, especially loves the sound of them rubbing the wings. He told me that some people even had to eat grasshoppers during the special time in his generition because there were no food supplied to the most of families in China.

So, one day I was playing with my daughter on a playground, we saw many of colourful grasshoppers on the poles around the playground, I decide to take some pictures to show my father how big and pretty of Florida grasshoppers are. My husband made a joke, said " That could be a great 'dinner' for somebody!" %#$$#&(*&&*(@#$) I know what he meant!--That is only in the past, we are much better now! =)

Anyway, it becomes a perfect object for me to paint for this week's "The Insect Challenge" today, hope you like it! They are really impressive!

"Buddies"-Commission Work

Buddies
6 x 8"
Oil on gessoed hardboard

This painting is my commission work for a gentleman who wants to paint this picture as a gift for his brother's coming birthday. In the painting, his brother and his grandson were having special conversation, the expression on their faces were very impressive. I am so motivated to paint it after receive this photo reference which is taken by the gentleman himself. He is also a very talented photographer and landscape oil painter. I am so honored to do this special work for his family. We are both very satisfied with the final result, then after asked for his permission, I post this painting as a record of my portrait/figure painting achievement.

This commission work is the first one ordered by a person that is not from family or friend. Working for a person that you don't know is a part of motivation, a little bit of pressure...but makes me concentrated on the work and to do my best satisfying the customer. I am grateful for this opportunity. Hope his brother will enjoy the painting on his birthday!

Everyone welcome to leave a comment and advice to me about this painting! I really appreciate that too!

"Striped Shadows"

Striped Shadows
7 x 7"
Oil on gessoed board

Here is my entry for this week's "The Stripe Challenge" --by Carol Marine. I went to the local park one day, it was hot hot hot day at noon, the benches on the pier are made by striped metal, no one wants to get grilled sitting on it, so I get chance to take a picture of it. The bench and the balustrades and their shadows made a great composition. To get the perspective right is quite a challenge -- I kept telling myself "don't get lost in the stripes" when I was painting the shadows. Hope you enjoy the painting.
