"Painting Sculpture of Diana"--The Statue Challenge

Painting Sculpture of Diana
6 x 8"
Oil on 1/4" thick gessoed MDF board
Sold
This is my entry for DPW's "The Statue Challenge". It is a close-up painting of the sculpture of " A Companion of Diana". I took few photos for this beautiful sculpture when I was visiting National Gallery of Art in DC. When I was doing the painting, brought me back the memory of the drawing classes that I attended in China when I was in high school. We gained a lot from those intensive training. Painting a masterpiece statue is really a multi-practice to me. Thanks to the host Carlene for the great opportunity.

"Soothing Bath"

Soothing Bath
8 x 10"
Oil on 1/4" thick gessoed MDF board

This is my contribution for this week DPW's "The Bathing Woman Challenge" by Carol Marine. It is a really beautiful reference photo that I can't resist. I tried to paint-as-it at the beginning, then I found out there are "too much to handle" in this scene, I just want to focus on the mainly subject, then I decide to adjust the background to fit what I want it to be. This painting has so much potential detail to do, but I want to stop at here before it's  getting too tight. Maybe some day I will paint a large version of it again. Thanks Carol for a great opportunity to paint your beautiful model!

“In The Love Season"

In The Love Season

Oil on 1/4"thick gessoed MDF board

An Asian couple were enjoying the romantic moment at beach before the sunset, the thing that caught my attention is their same blue-white print style clothes, like a special "code" to show the whole world that they are in love.

"Mutual Admiration"--Painting People in Art Gallery Series

Mutual Admiration
5 x 7"
Oil on 1/4" thick gessoed MDF board

I chose this reference photo to paint for this week DPW's "The Amalgam Challenge". As you may see from my blog, I admire artist Karin Jurick's style of oil paintings since the day I discovered her blog and web site. Not only I am impressed by her brilliant art works, but also grateful for her generous and sincere sharing advices and technics of how to be successful in  painting. Through following of her style, I learned and understood her unique concept of art. She is very inspirational talented artist to me in so many ways.

I captured this lady checking out her iphone while her children were having fun in the water. I can see myself in that picture. The little screen gets such attention in our lives.
